Brass Holy Water Pitcher (Kindi)
This holy water container is called Kindi in Tamil language. This type of pitcher usually found in old houses in South India in the Pooja room or Prayer room. Usually it is made out of bell metal but for this was made of brass. It is commonly used during Pooja or prayer to dispense holy water. The larger size Kindi is also used to store water at the entrance of the house, so that visitors can wash their feet and hands after meals during the olden days. The ones that I have here originated here, in Penang. There are Tamil wordings inscribed on it.
