Bijou Germany Typewriter
This is an old typewriter produced with Tamil alphabets instead of the typical Roman alphabets. It was made from a German company called "Bijou", established in 1900's according to some sources and this particular Tamil typewriter was believed to be produced in 1930's. The manufacturer Bijou had claimed that they would produce a typewriter in any language whose alphabet can be accommodated on the standard English keyboard. Tamil was the only Indian language for which this was possible because of its compact alphabet. The keyboard design had some unique and ingenious features. Yet there were lacunae. The typewriter cost Rs. 219 in year 1937.
