Pillow End


This silver item was used as a pillow end. It mean, at the end edge of pillow (round shape) they will stitched as decoration. This silver pillow end was used by Malay community and only those wealthy families. According to some source this pillow end was made by Chinese silversmith for Malay community. If notice clearly, there is holy sign of Muslim and also decorated with floral design so it an evidence Malay communities used.

Curtain Hook


Curtain hook made from silver. In paired. Very intricated work done by silversmith. "Slamet Pakek" incised on it. Believed used in 1930's. Either Peranakan community or Muslim community was used.

"Caping" In Tamil called "Arasilai"

This is an ornament worn by girls reaching pre-puberty age. It's called as "Modesty Disc" in English. It is shaped like a leaf.

Some are made in gold, silver, bronze, copper, leather and so on. This will be decided according to their family wealth. A string will be worn around the waist. Can be used thick string or silver string. The ornament is hung so that it covers the private part. After puberty, it will not be worn anymore.This also believed used as an amulet which able to prevents evil spirits from entering the body.

According to some sources, even boys wore this before reaching the puberty age also.

Silver Belt

This Silver belt was bought in Melaka. According to the seller, this belt belongs to a Chitti Melaka. Chiti Melaka means Indian Nyonya family and the wealthy Melaka Malay community wears it. On the belt itself it has floral design that also portrays the Malay culture. If this is from the Baba Nyonya community, then this belt must come with other design, such as peonies, butterflies or other animals. It was made from silver and gild with gold. It is decorated with sea shells around belt.  It is in very good condition.

Silver Betel Box

This is a pure silver made betel box which was bought from Tanjore (South India). It is a hand made betel box and it is not consider old to be categorized as antique. It was tailor-made and I received it as a gift to add into my collection. According to the person, it took over 2 months to complete this. The silver smith did a good job and finalizing with an elaborated finishing touch.

Wooden Clog

























This is a pair of wooden clogs, which was being used around early 19th century or even earlier than that. The size of this clogs are big which means the people back then have bigger and stronger feet. The toe lock was made from silver and it was taken to confirmed by a silver smith.

The clogs were originated from the Baba Nyonya culture and it was adapted by the Indians. This clog indicates that it was from a wealthy individual. To proof that, the silver toe lock. The condition of this pair of clog is in good condition. It was bought in Penang from an antique seller. There is no indication of markings on it.
